Rev. Joe Gaspar and Rev. Heather Power
Ministry of Word and Sacrament
Rev. Joe Gaspar and Rev. Heather Power are Parkminster’s ministry team. Little did they know that a few classes many years ago at Emmanuel College would lead them into a lifelong friendship and now the opportunity to work together in team. For them, this really is a dream team! They are passionate about imparting authentic spirituality in their work with all members of the congregation and beyond. They are excited by the many ways that Parkminster can reach out to the community and create meaningful and faithful partnerships.
Heather and Joe bring with them unique gifts and styles but it is their passion to work as a team that will foster Parkminster’s inclusive atmosphere.
Joe has worked with congregations in Hornepayne and Parry Sound. He was born in Portugal and raised as a Roman Catholic but found a home in the United Church in the 90s. He enjoys spiritual reading and is a fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and The Toronto Blue Jays!
The United Church is in Heather’s blood. Her mother was a United Church minister as well. She has worked with congregations in Cookstown-Thornton (outside of Barrie), Newmarket, Toronto, and Alliston. She loves live theatre, a good book, and opportunities to travel.
Joe and Heather are delighted to be a part of the Parkminster community and look forward to welcoming you!
Neil Murray is our Director of Music. He graduated from UWO in 1993 with an Honours Bachelor of Music Education. The following year, he studied chamber music at the Bordeaux Conservatory in France. Neil taught privately for 16 years, offering lessons on piano, saxophone, clarinet, flute and guitar. He has been involved in church work as a music director for over 20 years! Along with his work at Parkminster, Neil currently teaches K-8 music at a Montessori school.
Neil says he’s fortunate to have a passion, music, which has been turned into a career. He performs several times a month in a local band which has been together for over a decade. Neil shares that he enjoys working at Parkminster because of the musical diversity an adds that there are many knowledgeable volunteers who offer their support and enthusiasm for any activity.
Allen is our Custodian. When asked about Parkminster, he responded that what he likes about Parkminster is the architecture. Sleek, modern, and unique with a wonderful combination of wood, brick and glass. The sanctuary is filled with arches, from the stained glass window, the sides of the pews, the woodwork in the narthex and the choir loft. Allen says that for him, the arch represents a gateway into something; as if he’s passing under into the great mystery. The arches also represent the connectedness to each other, the Parkminster family.
Allen goes on to share that he feels blessed to part of a vibrant church community with his employment and participation in various committees; one being the Inclusive Ministries Committee – a personal passion.
Melanie Chisholm is the welcoming face of Parkminster as our Office Administrator. Melanie has worked in office administration for 30 years in different environments including transportation, media and the not-for-profit sector. Melanie has been an active member of the United Church community where she has sung in the choir, volunteered on various committees, produced church newsletters and assisted in the kitchen with the Out of the Cold program. Melanie shares that she is very happy to be part of the Parkminster family!
