Rev. Joe Gaspar and Rev. Heather Power

Ministry of Word and Sacrament

Rev. Joe Gaspar and Rev. Heather Power are Parkminster’s new ministry team. Little did they know that a few classes many years ago at Emmanuel College would lead them into a lifelong friendship and now the opportunity to work together in team. For them, this really is a dream team! They are passionate about imparting authentic spirituality in their work with all members of the congregation and beyond. They are excited by the many ways that Parkminster can reach out to the community and create meaningful and faithful partnerships.

Heather and Joe bring with them unique gifts and styles but it is their passion to work as a team that will foster Parkminster’s inclusive atmosphere.

Rev. Joe and his wife Andrea have 3 children, Calvin, Joshua and Jacinta. Calvin is currently in 3rd Year studying Computer Science at Ryerson University. Joshua has begun his first year at York in Graphic Design and Jacinta is in Grade 11. Andrea has worked in various capacities, her most recent position was CEO of the Parry Sound Public Library.

Joe has worked with congregations in Hornepayne and Parry Sound. He was born in Portugal and raised as a Roman Catholic but found a home in the United Church in the 90s. He enjoys spiritual reading and is a fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and The Toronto Blue Jays!

Heather and her husband Kieran have 2 daughters Skye and Shadow. Skye is in Grade 9 and Shadow is in Grade 8. Kieran was raised in Northern Ireland and came to Canada when he and Heather were married. His background is in I.T. and he has worked for companies such as Microsoft and Corel. More recently he is the “domestic engineer” for the Power household and a stay-at-home-dad for the girls.

The United Church is in Heather’s blood. Her mother was a United Church minister as well. She has worked with congregations in Cookstown-Thornton (outside of Barrie), Newmarket, Toronto, and Alliston. She loves live theatre, a good book, and opportunities to travel.

Joe and Heather are delighted to be a part of the Parkminster community and look forward to welcoming you!

Neil Murray

Neil Murray

Music Director

Hi, I am Neil Murray, Music Director at PUC. A little about me: I graduated from UWO in 1993 with an Honours Bachelor of Music Education. The following year, I studied chamber music at the Bordeaux Conservatory in France. I taught privately for 16 years, offering lessons on piano, saxophone, clarinet, flute and guitar. I have been involved in church work as a music director for the past 18 years, 4 of which have been at Parkminster. Along with my work at Parkminster, I currently teach K-8 music at the Sunshine Montessori school in Kitchener.

Angie and I have been married for 16 years and we have two children, Branden and Grace. I’m fortunate to have a passion, music, which has been turned into a career. I perform several times a month in a local band which has been together for 12 years.I enjoy working at Parkminster because of the musical diversity. There are many knowledgeable volunteers who offer their support and enthusiasm for any activity.

Custodian

What I like about Parkminster Church is the architecture, sleek, modern, and unique with a wonderful combination of wood, brick and glass. The sanctuary is filled with arches, from the stained glass window, the sides of the pews, the woodwork in the narthex and the choir loft. For me, the arch represents a gateway into something; I pass under into the great mystery. The arches also represent the connectedness to each other, the Parkminster family.

I am blessed to part of a vibrant church community with my employment and participation in the many committees; one being Inclusive
