Since 2000, Neighbourhood Groups have been an important means of cultivating friendships and caring amongst the Parkminster congregation. All members are automatically assigned to a group in their area. One or several in each group take the lead in organizing periodic get-togethers or activities, and also ensure pastoral care needs are met.

The nature and frequency of getting together varies between groups. In the past, activities have included BBQs or social times at a member’s home, lunch after church on Sunday, bowling, sleigh rides, Christmas light tours, trail walking, etc. It’s a way for members to get to know one another, keep in touch, celebrate joys and help with concerns.

Neighbourhood leaders are regularly notified about:

• New members, including those transferring their membership
• Families leaving the congregation
• Families moving to another area, hence a different neighbourhood group
