Welcome to the community labyrinth at Parkminster United Church. People of every age and faith or no faith are invited to walk this labyrinth. Located in a tranquil area at the rear of the church building, it is wheelchair accessible and always open. There is evening lighting and video surveillance for security.
The labyrinth is an ancient and powerful tool used for meditation, prayer, relaxation, and celebration. It can help you restore a sense of balance to body, mind, and spirit. There is only one path. It winds to the centre and back out again so you cannot get lost. If you meet another walker, step to the side, allow the walker to pass, and then resume your walk.
How to Walk the Labyrinth
Prepare: Take a moment to centre yourself. Take a deep breath, stand or sit quietly.
The Journey In: Follow the path. Release concerns and quiet your mind.
The Centre: Receive what insight the moment offers. Stay as long as you need.
The Journey Out: Return following the same path. Reflect on how you might carry this insight into your life.
Music may enhance your experience. You may bring your own music but please play it at low sound levels or listen with ear buds to respect our neighbours.
The Community Labyrinth at Parkminster United Church was built in 2016 by Keldee Landscape & Outdoor Contracting Inc. of Waterloo. The Government of Canada funded the construction. The City of Waterloo and the United Way provided the funding for the directional signs and labyrinth plaque. Parkminster United Church provided the site and countless hours of volunteer time to bring this project to fruition. We acknowledge that this labyrinth sits on the traditional territory of the Anishnawbe (an-ish-in-aabe), the Haudenosaunee (hau-de-no-sau-nee), and the Neutral peoples.
The labyrinth dedication service, led by Rev. Meg Grieve, was held in September 2016. Guests included the Hon. Bardish Chagger, MP; Mayor Dave Jaworsky, City of Waterloo; community group leaders; church neighbours; and the members of Parkminster United Church.
Individuals and groups are invited to walk this labyrinth at any time. However, groups are encouraged to contact the church office in advance (519-885-0935 ext. 21 or admin@parkuc.ca) to schedule a time.
