Speaker Series – Gary Bruce

  • Public Lecture by Gary Bruce: Full Professor of History at the University of Waterloo. He has studied at Queen’s University, the University of Glasgow, the University of Leipzig and McGill University, where he obtained a PhD in Modern European History. He is the author of numerous books and articles on various aspects of German history, including most recently Through The Lion Gate: A History Of The Berlin Zoo published in 2017 by Oxford University Press.
  • Topic: Does History Repeat Itself? Germany’s Far Right in Historical Perspective The recent electoral success of Germany’s far-right party, the Alternative For Germany, has caused many to ask: Do we need to worry about Germany again? In this talk, Gary Bruce will compare Germany’s current far-right populism to previous eras and explain why the Alternative For Germany has become the party of choice for an increasing number of Germans.
